Kitfisto, a little background: The R3 Art Challenge has been going since 2005-2006. WEEKLY. It stated on one forum, when that one was a casualty of a freehost I absorbed it into my R3 Forum, a message board supporting my Third Rail Design Lab illustration site. Those artists came over and we resumed weekly jams, as well as hosted several other art projects and collaborations. Last year, as I noted more NEW folks were finding my work and/or asking about the jams via dA and FB, I created a companion to our original jam, here on dA, called . It is a duplicate of the weekly challenges found on the R3 Forum, and some artists post to both, while others are only on dA or only on the forum.
The concept of this jam series, given the weekly frequency, is warm-up/inspiration/art sharing. It's intended to encourage artists of all skill levels to dip in as they have time and inclination. Some come and go and return a few years later; some use it them exclusively as warm-up, producing pencil sketches or quick digital work-ups. Others, like me, use it as an opportunity to draw characters for fun when our time is otherwise booked by commercial projects. The jams are always open, so people can contribute to any at any time, old or new, and they can contribute existing work or create new work. Again, it's not a competition, so anything brought into the group is intended to inspire everyone participating or viewing.
This fall, I started inviting select artists to include their work as I come across it, if it fits one of our challenges and looks, you know, awesome. Hence my proposal that your sweet Gaslight Batman be included. Some artists who have been invited in have become members and participated in weekly challenges from time to time, and I hope you may feel compelled to do the same. Old work, new work, whatever works for you.
